Invasive non native species (INNS) are plants or animals that aggressively out compete other species in the environment, in the case of plants often replacing those that would naturally occur in a habitat or ecosystem, in some cases on a landscape scale.

Invasive fauna can detrimentally impact individual species or whole habitats on a large or small scale.

The costs, of Invasive non native species both economic, commercial and environmental can be high but can increase if action is not taken. A number of invasive non-native species are found in the Highlands, many of which are of concern nationally and others which are peculiar to the region.
